Photoreal Rhino renders from any viewport capture

Rhino gives you the form. Volexi gives you the materials, lighting, and photography. Upload a viewport PNG, render in a minute.

Volexi produces a photoreal render from a Rhino viewport PNG in 30–60 seconds. Capture the viewport, upload to Volexi, set your material and lighting preset, and get a 4K output with Rhino linework preserved.

What the numbers say

54saverage concept render from Rhino viewport capture
6 / 7 / 8Rhino versions supported — format-agnostic
GH friendlyGrasshopper viewport captures work identically

Inside VolexiIn a sample of 1,204 Rhino uploads from parametric-design users during the Volexi beta, the average setup time dropped from 22 minutes with a traditional PBR workflow to 54 seconds end-to-end with Volexi — a 24× speed improvement on concept renders.

How it works

How to capture a Rhino viewport for Volexi

Three steps to turn a Rhino working viewport into a photoreal AI render.

  1. Step 1

Set up the camera in Rhino

Orient the perspective viewport. Use shaded or rendered display mode. Turn off grid, construction planes, and unused layers.

  2. Step 2

    Capture the viewport to PNG

ViewCaptureToFile at 2048 × 1536 or larger. This writes a PNG with the exact framing you picked — no proxy render, no material setup.

  3. Step 3

    Upload to Volexi

Drop the PNG in the editor, pick a material and daylight preset, and click Render. A photoreal image is ready in about a minute.

Why Rhino teams choose Volexi

Does Volexi open Rhino 3DM files directly?

No. Volexi reads viewport PNG or JPG captures, so the 3DM stays in your workflow and no geometry is transmitted to the server.

This matters for parametric work in Grasshopper where the 3DM can balloon with nested definitions. Volexi only needs what you see on screen, not the full scene graph.

Does it work with Grasshopper previews?

Yes. ViewCaptureToFile captures whatever is currently baked or previewed in the Rhino viewport, including Grasshopper geometry.

This lets parametric designers iterate on form in Grasshopper and visualise each variant in Volexi without baking geometry or writing a PBR material assignment each time.

Can I lock the render to Rhino linework?

Yes, via Architecture Lock. Volexi runs a Canny-edge pass on your viewport capture to keep critical edges intact.

Ideal for façade studies where window rhythm or panel division matters. The AI textures around the linework rather than reinterpreting it freely.

Is there a Rhino plugin for Volexi?

No — and that is the point. No installs, no version-lag for Rhino 8 updates, no Python dependency management on macOS.

Every Rhino user — Windows or Mac, Rhino 6 or 8 — uses the same Volexi workflow. The lowest-common-denominator surface (a PNG) keeps the tool future-proof.
